Acupuncture Will Help Stop Smoking
Acupuncture helps smokers get rid of their bad habits. Norwegian researchers found that the introduction of needles at certain points on the body leads to a decrease in the number of cigarettes smoked per day, and in many people to a complete cessation of smoking for a long time.
The study was conducted at the University of Oslo under the supervision of Dr. Dong He. All smokers who participated in the experiment were divided into two groups. People from the first group of needles were placed at traditional points, the impact on which is associated with quitting smoking. For participants in the second (control) group, the needles were placed at points that did not affect cigarette addiction.
All study participants received acupuncture twice a week for three weeks. In addition, smokers were trained in finger massage of the auricles, which they had to do four times a day for three weeks as well.
During the experiment, the number of cigarettes smoked per day among smokers of the first group decreased by an average of 14, compared with the family in the control. After the study, participants from both groups again began to smoke an average of 5-7 cigarettes per day more than during treatment.
In the first group, 32 percent of smokers quit cigarettes immediately after the experiment. Scientists note that after eight months and after five years, 23 and 18 percent of participants from the first group were still abstaining from smoking. There were no smoking cessations in the control group.
